Torri di Slivia's Cave

The Cave of the Towers of Slivia has a total length of 554 meters, with a maximum vault height of 55 meters. An internal staircase descends alongside a natural well, leading down to the heart of the cave. As you move along the path, looking around feels like stepping into another dimension, a space where shapes and colors are shaped by dripping water, existing in a timeless realm resulting from a slow evolution. The walls and ceiling are adorned with families of stalactites, curtains, tubular formations, and stone chandeliers, while spectacular groups of stalagmites rise from the ground, giving the cave its name.

Due to its unique features and the variety of formations, the Cave of the Towers of Slivia is considered one of the most beautiful in the Trieste Karst. The natural entrance opens at an altitude of 114 meters above sea level, leading into a spacious well with a stony bottom that can only be accessed with speleological equipment. This is where the first explorers entered in the late 19th century. Today, after being closed to the public for over forty years, the cave is once again accessible through an artificial entrance created just a few meters away from the well. It then continues, hidden from view, through narrow passages and chimneys, eventually reaching the base waters of the Karst at a depth of 101 meters.
